About Groningen
Groningen is the largest city in the north of the Netherlands, with internationally acknownledged organisations such as the University of Groningen (RUG) , the University Medical Centre (UMCG), the headquarters of N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie and the Groninger Museum. Among others these institutions make Groningen the regional centre for more than half a million people.
In the very north the Groningen Seaports manages two inner harbours:
Delfzijl-Oosterhorn and the Eemshaven. The latter particularly has been developed into an strategic economic industrial site with the focus on energy.
